A REPORT ON THE PLATEAU STATE TOURISM SECTOR ,UNDER THE LEADERSHIP OF THE WORKAHOLIC, HONOURABLE COMMISSIONER FOR TOURISM,CULTURE AND HOSPITALITY,PLATEAU STATE, MRS TAMWAKAT WELI.

PLATEAU state which is known as the home of peace and Tourism is a State where there is Culture in diversity.The beauty of the land and its favourable wheather conditions have
earned it a lot of foreign attractions and national artistry glory.
Since the inception of the Rescue administration,Led by the Tourism Governor, Rt. Hon. Dr Simon Bako Lalong. The ministry of Tourism, Culture and hospitality, under the leadership of the Workaholic, Honourable Commissioner, Mrs Tamwakat Weli is said to have recorded and performed extraordarily and still performing consecutively in sustaining and harnessing the Tourism sector:
*The Plateau State Government, through the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Hospitality had Organised series of ground breaking events such as the Jos Carnival which was aimed at promoting Socio-economic development of the State.The carnival kicked off in 2017 with subsequent editions in 2018 and 2019 respectively.
*Also,The Ministry Hosted the 2018 Annual General Meeting (AGM) conference in partnership with Nigerian Association of Tour Operators (NATOP).
*Moreso,The Workaholic Commissioner Initiated the 1st Tourism Policy which was approved by the Executive Governor of Plateau State,Rt.Hon.Barr Simon Bako Lalong.
*Also, the State is set to unveil it’s official Emblem/Logo,Anthem,flag and Colors.
*Last but not the least,Plateau State is set to host the 2020 National Art Festival (NAFEST) in October, at Jos.
*The Ministry’s future (Initiatives). *establishment of workshops for ceramic,crafts,batik,tie and die, etc.
*Replacement of our modern band
Instruments most of which are absolete.
*Acquisition of State lightening equipments among others.
In line with the Rescue administration with the sole aim of restoring peace and unity in the state.The Plateau state Government, through the ministry of Tourism, Culture and Hospitality had organised series of ground-breaking events such as the Jos Carnival, which was purposely initiated to show both National and International communities our tradition, values, norms, believes, food, cultural attires, etc. As a means of maintaining our cultural values and preserving our traditional and cultural heritage.Hence,these initiative has empowered more than 1,300 dancers on the Plateau and over 30 cultural dance troupes. It has also yielded positive impact in the socio-economic development of the state and further promoted sustainable peace and unity.
Furthermore, the 1st state Tourism policy approval marks another milesone achievement in the Rescue Administration. In line with the determination to develop it’s tourism potentials,the Tourism policy which was initiated by the workaholic Commissioner,Hon. Mrs Tamwakat Weli,was adopted on 20th May 2019.
The draft Tourism policy was necessary to enable speedy growth and development of our numerous Tourism endowments and potentials for the Socio-economic development of our dear PLATEAU.
The Honourable Commissioner,Mrs Tamwakat Weli, in partnership with key stakeholders in the Tourism sector had put in efforts to revive and develop some of these tourism endowments we have on the Plateau.These policy necessitated the renovation and development of the state tourism endowments and poentials,in which some have been fully renovated and revived,while others are yet to be revived due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Moreso,in 2018,in an unprecedented approach to show the universe that peace has been sustained, Plateau State in a bit to reclaim its formost position host The leading Tourism Organization In Nigeria ,The Nigerian Association of Tour Operators (NATOP),which organised its first AGM conference with the theme: Security Challenges And promotion of Tourism in Nigeria,held in Northern part of dthe country for the first time, in Jos.
It was a ground-breaking event,which among others had bend also promoted the speedy growth and success of Tourism in Nation Building.
Northwithstanding,In Government’s Commitment to push the frontiers of the Tourism Sector forward and in unison to the “Think Plateau, Act Plaeteau” slogan, the Plateau State Governor, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Dr. Simon Bako Lalong has approved the constitution of a Committee, headed by Hon. Tamwakat Weli, to Brand the State, thereby creating and Identifying the Tourism Sector.
In line with this directive, the Committee invites the General Public to submit samples of the State’s Official Emblem/Logo, Anthem, Flag and Colors for consideration.
Deadline for submission of entries is Monday, August 31st, 2020* and should be submitted to the Office of the Hon. Comm. Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Hospitality,

In a related development, the Plateau State Government, through the ministry of Tourism, Culture and Hospitality,is set to host the 2020 National Art Festival (NAFEST) at jos.
The Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency Rt. Hon. Barr. Simon Bako Lalong, has promised to thrill guests with a world-class cultural centre during the NAFEST 2020 slated for October this year.
He made this assertion while hosting the Director-General, National Council for Arts and Culture, Otunba Segun Runsewe, during a visit to the Government House in Jos.
He lauded the culture helmsman for giving the NAFEST 2020 hosting rights to the state.
He promised that, basic requirements to make the event a success would be put in place, assuring his guest that Plateau State, being home of hospitality, tourism and peace, will host the ‘mother’ of all NAFEST by all standards.
